Installation Guide
Tools Needed
- Circular saw
- Heavy duty safety cutting knife
- Tape measure
- Pencil
- Caulking glue & SikaBond-142 Instant Nails tubes
- Cordless screwdriver
- Multi-tool
Additional materials required to achieve higher acoustic performance (OPTIONAL)
- Mineral wool insulation batts (dimensions to fit between wall battens, i.e. 430mm wide x 45mm deep)
- 70x45mm pine framing battens and complementing batten screws
- 30mm black screws (minimum 15 per panel)
Preparation
STEP 1
Calculating number of panels needed
- Measure the width of intended installation wall
- Panel standard dimensions measure 240cm high and 60cm wide
- Divide length of wall by 60cm, and round up to order full panels (e.g. if wall is 400cm then order 7 panels, not 6.6)
STEP 2
Preparing installation area
- Clear wall of any obtrusive objectives such as old screws and nails
- Clean surface area to ensure glue adheres effectively to substrate
Installation
STEP 1
Resizing QuietBark panels to length
- Measure height of walls to determine length of panels required
- Using a pencil, mark panels to required length (measure and mark both left and right-hand side of panel to ensure cut is square)
- Proceed with cutting panels to size using the circular saw (minimise splinters and veneer breakouts by using a new/sharp fine finish circular blade)
- If end of slats detach from felt, you may need to resecure using a maximum 15mm screw via back of panel through felt into MDF slat (i.e. secret fixing)
- Repeat procedure for remaining panels
OPTION A
Direct Stick - Standard Acoustic Performance
(suitable for wall installation only)
STEP 2A
Attaching panels directly to wall
- Prepare Sika Instant Nail tube in caulking gun and nozzle, and place panels upside down (ensuring oak slats face are protected with a towel)
- Dispense the full 300g tube evenly across the full area of the panel’s felt (ensure perimeter edges have a thick bead of glue). Use one tube per panel
- Place panel into position and apply even pressure to ensure panels bond to wall, holding until glue sets
- Repeat steps for remaining panels, ensuring the protruding starting slat of subsequent panel overlaps the surplus felt of the existing panel (or vice-versa) in order to achieve continuous, consistent spacing between slats
- Refer to Step 5 to learn how to cut final panel width to size
OPTION B
Batten & Mineral Wool - Superior Acoustic Performance
STEP 2B
Installing framing battens
- Fix 70x45mm pine framing battens to wall using batten screws into structural substrate
- Ensure battens are horizontally spaced at 45cm centres (resulting in approximately 43cm gap to accommodate insulation batts)
STEP 3
Installing insulation battens
- Squeeze acoustic insulation batts between batten
- Use safety knife to cut batts to size
STEP 4
Attaching panels to battens
- Place pre-cut panels into position
- Screw panels to wall through the felt (i.e. between slats) into timber battens
- Recommend using a minimum of 15 screws per panel
- Repeat steps for remaining panels, ensuring the protruding starting slat of subsequent panel overlaps the surplus felt of the existing panels (or vice-versa)
STEP 5
Fitting the final QuietBark panel
- Installing the last panel onto your feature wall will likely require adjusting panel width to the available space
- Accurately measure the remaining space between felt and edge of wall
- Mark the required width of panels accordingly (to the nearest felt sequence)
- Using a sharp, heavy duty safety knife, slice the acoustic felt (often easier from behind panel)
- Fit off final panel as per your preferred method (i.e. Option A or B)
Additional Steps (if required)
STEP 6
Finishing exposed ends of feature wall (temporarily unavailable)
- QuietBark offers matching end-trims to achieve a neat, professional finish at the exposed ends of your panels
- Simply cut trim to size and glue end-trim flush with felt and press until adhesive takes hold
STEP 7
Fitting around existing powerpoints and switches
- Installing QuietBark panels around existing wall objects such as light switches requires specialised carpentry skills and tooling
- Accurately measure the X and Y distances of the existing wall objects from the previously installed QuietBark panel
- Mark X1/X2 and Y1/Y2 distances onto new panel board, and complete drawing the outline of the required cut-out
- Use a multi-tool cutter to remove marked area
